Welcome to an event hosted by the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) in collaboration with the Nordic Ukraine Forum. Join us on 6th of February, 2024, to explore and support the critical cause of higher education in Ukraine.

The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and the Nordic Ukraine Forum cordially invite you to a significant event on 6th of February at 16:30. Together, let's delve into a crucial topic - the impact of the war in Ukraine on human capital and higher education.

In the construction of modern Ukraine on the way to a prosperous future in the European Union, human capital will play a crucial role. Conversations on rebuilding often focus on hard infrastructure, and this important aspect is not always highlighted. On February 6th we invite to a discussion that will focus on the role the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) plays in educating the future leaders of Ukraine and providing policy analysis to guide the reforms that are helping the country fight the war and shape the future.

In particular, KSE together with SITE and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) will present their initiatives to support students and academics from Ukraine during the evening. Representatives from Swedfund and Nordic Ukraine Forum will highlight the importance and new opportunities for different projects and collaborations in Ukraine. The success of post-war reconstruction in Ukraine depends on our collective efforts to save the Ukrainian human capital.

Russia’s fierce military campaign in Ukraine continues, but Ukraine stands its ground as the military tide is turning in its favour.

But what is needed for Ukraine to win the war and become a successful member of the EU? What is the effect of sanctions imposed on Russia? And how to limit the resources available to Russia's war machine?

On Monday, November 7, 2022, the Friends of KSE together with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and the FREE Network organized an event to discuss ideas on how we can support Ukraine and KSE during and after the war.

Until now the KSE has raised more than 37 million US dollars in support of defence and education for Ukraine. While KSE is raising funds to support Ukraine in the war, we started the charitable foundation Friends of KSE to support the KSE, Ukrainian students and academics.

During the event, Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of KSE and former Minister of Economy and Trade in Ukraine, and Nataliia Shapoval, Vice President for Policy Research at KSE discussed how Ukraine has survived the invasion and how support from all over the world has helped Ukrainian resistance.

Andreas Umland and Torbjörn Becker shared their insights on how Ukraine can become a successful member of the EU. Maria Perrotta Berlin moderated the panel.

The world is darkened by Russia´s terrifying and tragic war against Ukraine. The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) together with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE) and the Embassy of Ukraine in Sweden hosted a fundraising event and discussion on how to provide intellectual and humanitarian support to faculty members, researchers, and students working within and outside Ukraine’s borders.

During the evening, funds were raised for the newly formed Swedish nonprofit organization, the Friends of KSE, to help provide intellectual and humanitarian support to researchers, faculty members and students at KSE, working within and outside Ukraine’s borders.

During the event, Tetra Laval announced a contribution of €500,000 to the Friends of KSE Charitable Foundation to promote education and scientific research for Ukrainians.
